RA2 as it is otherwise known is a modification or ‘mod’ for Quake 2 where players are given all weapons and full ammo, so the only thing between players is either their ping or skill. Also each map when loaded gives the option to either create your own team or join the pickup teams. If you choose to create your own team you then get given a choice of arenas to play in, usually in 1v1 mode however you can also vote settings to play in 2v2/3v3 modes.

If you choose to play in one of the pickup teams you are then put into the pickup arena allocated to that pickup team which is a larger arena made for bigger teams for example 4v4 or 5v5.

Some of the pickup arenas will be familiar to Q2 players for instance map 27′s pickup arena is Q2DM1 and map 20 is Q2DM1 reversed.
